Decluttr Reviews

Decluttr is a website and app that allows you to sell your unwanted tech items, CDs, books, or even Legos for cash. It gives you an instant price evaluation, and there are no auctions or fees. It also provides you with free shipping of the items you're selling by sending you downloadable shipping labels. The company claims that once the item arrives, you'll get paid the next workday by direct deposit, PayPal, or check.

As side hustles go, this one is totally dependent on how much old stuff you have to sell. So if you don’t sell a ton, you won’t make much. If you’re just looking to make a quick buck and you’re sitting on some tech you never use, it can be a lucrative one-off monetary boost. According to reviews, the payout isn’t huge, though. This app won’t make you rich.

For example, if you were to sell an unlocked iPhone8 (64 GB) in perfect condition to Decluttr, the highest they offer is $331. On eBay, the same phone is for sale for anywhere from $350 to $550.

As a buyer, you get free shipping and a 12-month guarantee on all refurbished tech, as well as the many deals the company does daily. It has a large array of products ranging from iPhones to console games and DVDs. The site’s prices seem reasonable. If you bought a new 64 GB iPad Pro directly from Apple, it would cost you $800, and that’s just the starting price. On Decluttr you could pay $470 for a similar model.

However, the real lure is the 12-month limited warranty. You’re covered even if the product is faulty, which is always reassuring when buying refurbished tech, but the warranty does not cover damage due to transportation, storage, or improper use.

The site is easy to navigate and clearly defines between seller and buyer. You can choose which you want to be, and browse the options from there.

The app is only for the seller. Once you download it, it brings you straight into the thick of things by asking exactly what you want to sell. After you enter the details, the app quotes a price and asks you to create an account in order to continue.

It’s straightforward and quick. Plus, if you’re selling CDs, games, or books, there’s a barcode scanner available through your phone camera that gives an exact reading of the product and how much it’s worth.

In such a saturated market, Decluttr has good reviews. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) gives the site and A- rating. On the Apple App Store, it has a rating of 4.1 from 592 reviews. However, the reviews are also inundated with negativity, which makes us wonder how the rating is so high.

In order to maintain and A+ rating on BBB, a business must reduce the number of complaints, answer complaints in a timely manner (this means every complaint, or as close to this as possible–they take this very seriously), cooperating with the BBB, staying compliant, and monitoring your points. You need a minimum of 97 points to maintain an A+ with BBB.

The company claims to provide next-day shipping, but that doesn’t seem to be true. After reaching out to customer service via email, we were informed that Decluttr provides expedited options at checkout, if they’re available. Decluttr’s actual goal is to dispatch items within 48 hours of the order being placed. Each order also has an estimated delivery time at checkout.

Its shipping speed is dependent on the third party it uses, UPS, and according to Decluttr: “We aim to dispatch items out within 24-48 business hours of the order being placed. Any delays with delivery can be down to the postal service and due to circumstances out of our control.” Tread carefully.

After a lengthy FAQ section, Decluttr readily gives a contact number, open 9 to 5, Monday to Friday, and an email address. It claims to reply within 24 hours. and CentSai did receive a call back in this time frame.

Decluttr also has a Twitter account, but it’s not very active. Replies are delayed if they come at all.

With the big picture in mind, you will get out of Decluttr what you give. The more things you have to sell, the more money you can conceivably make. Since it gives you a 12-month warranty on refurbished tech, you can feel safe as a buyer knowing you’re covered.
