When is it best to use a personal check? Are checks something that are in the process of being replaced by technology?

Checks seem to be used when someone doesn’t have cash with them, and debit/credit is unavailable. Most often, I see this in babysitting-type services or in rent payments. I agree with you that checks are in the process of being replaced. I think as alternatives like apps that allow you to pay people back immediately take over, it’ll be more convenient, and more familiar to generations that are used to doing everything on their phones. It’s also easier to use these resources because there isn’t the possibility of outstanding, uncashed checks.

I always keep a check or two in my wallet on hand just in case although I rarely use them. I doubt they will be extinct completely but I agree that less and less people are using them. I get paid with a check by a few clients which is fine with me because it avoids some bank and paypal fees. Many parents also use checks when their kids are in school to pay for certain supplies or activities.
