My understanding is that the treatment of medical debt with respect to credit scores is changing as a result of recent legislation….

FICO-8 is the most commonly accepted credit score (although there are thousands), and medical debt is treated the same as other debts. In FICO-9 which is developed but not in common use, Medical debt is still considered but weighted differently.

When a particular bank is determining your credit score for something like a credit card or an auto loan, they may completely dismiss medical debt altogether.
