Before I bought my used car, I looked at the blue book values of similar models online, which allowed me to track how certain car makes retain their values. Part of why I choose my car, a Subaru, is because I can resell the car in a few years without losing a huge amount of money. Other cars (one that surprised me was my mom’s old prius) lost value much more quickly, so I assumed if I bought one now, its value would also plummet. I’d recommend this as a way to make a more informed purchase!

I know one thing I wished I had checked on before buying my car is the price of parts/maintenance! Even if you think you have gotten a good deal on a nice car, check how much the car parts cost. What will it cost you if you need to replace your tires? If you want snow tires, does your car make/model only fit 700$ tires? Include these kind of questions when you’re researching.
