I’m sure some medical expenses can be explained, but in some instances one can look at a medical bill and wonder why it that expensive. How can I fight high medical bills?

In reality, 8 out of 10 medical bills actually contain errors. The best way to fight medical bills is to understand them first. This should start with obtaining an itemized bill. The bill you get in the mail will not be itemized in most cases, instead, call the hospital and request an itemized bill. Then understand every single charge. This involves getting on the phone with the billing department (or even better the nurses department since they can help explain things).

For example, something like bandages, aspirin or other routine medical supplies shouldn’t be charged since they are already part of a facility fee.
