There are tons of resources out there to help you travel hack! Take time to look at these sites, such as ThePointsGuy.com or http://frequentmiler.boardingarea.com, and figure out which airline(s) you want to focus on, then get started meeting their spending requirements. For domestic travelers, I highly recommend looking into Southwest's credit cards. My partner and I fly for free (not including taxes and fees) with SW using the Companion Pass. It's really made traveling a lot easier and definitely less expensive!
Pick a card by your favorite airline and make sure you can meet their spending requirements. Be careful to not spend more money just for miles! I successfully travel hacked my way to Spain earlier this year for $63. Take the slow and steady route and it can be done.
Travel hacking can be done with frequent flier points - without having to fly to get points! If you get a credit card which is linked to a frequent flier program you can build points based on your purchases with the card. It is important to shop for the card which will give you points in the program you want. It is also really important to be careful with the card - it is never worth buying something you do not need just to get points.
