If I live in the US, but work internationally – either temporary work abroad, or work for an internationally based firm online – to whom do I pay my taxes?

If you’re living in the US while you work, then you normally pay US Federal and State income tax, even if you work for a firm abroad. If you live internationally, but work for a US based firm, tax law is a bit more complicated, but most of the time this qualifies as foreign earned income, and you aren’t taxed on that. This tends to be reciprocated worldwide (ie you pay taxes where you live).
