I have a friend who has library fines through our college outstanding for over 6 months. How do these fines affect her credit score, if they do?

The library fines will only affect her credit if it’s actually reported to the credit bureau. I should know. I’ve had late library fines many times but one time I moved after not returning an audio book, and the library sent warnings to my old address. I never got them and suffice to say, it’s still on my credit report today (although it’s marked as resolved.) College library fines could prevent your friend from graduating though. Usually you need to settle your university bills, so encourage your friend to go ahead and try to pay the fines. If they are really high, try to talk to the head librarian and see if they can lower the fines.
