I currently do not have a job and I still largely rely on my parents for what I do spend money on. Should I wait until I get some type of part-time steady job before I start searching for a credit card under my own name? I currently use a United MileagePlus card that everyone in my family basically shares, so I’m not entirely sure when I should start considering credit card options.

Look for a secured card that reports to all 3 credit bureaus. Building credit ASAP is important if you want a low interest mortgage in the future. As with everything, the earlier you begin, the better. Check your current score and target cards accordingly. Credit Karma does a good job showing you the score you need to get a certain card.
