Hi Nora, excellent – and timely – question.

For most people filing electronically is the way to go. E-file options walk you through the returns step by step so that you don’t have to be a tax expert to do a good job with a return.

The IRS offers free e-file options for people with income less than $64,000. Many states offer free electronic filing as well.

Gather your W2s, 1099s, and any other tax paperwork you’ve received and head straight to the IRS website at irs.gov to begin. The free e-file tool will walk you through your options both for federal and your state return before you even start.

Good luck!
