Based on the article about the dangers of using a debit card and where not to use one, it seems like nearly EVERY place a debit card could be used is a potentially dangerous one. What other options are available then, in a world where plastic cards are essential to use? Could a person function today without one?

To summarize, it is dangerous to use the debit cards at remote terminals and where the card leaves your hands (and internet transactions). There are two options: one is to operate with only cash (not so convenient). The other is to get a credit card. Even if a credit card is compromised, your liability is limited and your bank account is safe. It can be done....I have a debit card and only use it as an ATM card at a bank location. Otherwise I use cash or credit cards.
