A few people have recently recommended credit tracking apps like Experian Credit Tracker or even Credit Karma to me. Is it better or safer to periodically check your credit report for free online, or are these apps actually more helpful for staying vigilant about your credit situation?

I use credit Karma, and I really like it. If you want to have credit monitoring from all 3 bureaus, you may want to check out the Bill Guard App (it also serves as identity theft insurance).

I find that checking my email once a week is good enough for me. Most people don’t really need to obsess over their credit scores, so just monitoring for fraudulent activity is enough.
